Morressier’s virtual conference and publishing platform receives $18 million to promote innovation among the academic community

Berlin-based virtual conference and publishing platform designed for the scientific community Morressier, has closed an $18 million Series A funding round led by Owl Ventures. The funding will be used for the company’s growth as well as the launch of new community and analytics features to be integrated to the platform to increase the overall experience of conference content. Cherry Ventures and Redalpine also took part in the round.

Founded by Justus Weweler, Rino Montiel and Sami Benchekroun in 2014, Morressier focuses on research and academic innovations mainly through its conference-publishing platforms. Since its starting date the company has engaged with more than 200 of the world’s leading professional and scientific organizations with ACS, SPIE and IOPP being some of them. Morressier’s platform with its “powerful suite of tools and custom integrations” help partners to host, share, and fully integrate this traditionally hidden research, including abstracts, posters, presentations, and conference proceedings while at the same time being able to generate revenue through them.

Managing Director and Co-Founder of Morressier Sami Benchekroun stated: The past year saw an unprecedented shift to the online realm and highlighted the importance of providing better ways to meet and exchange content, particularly in vital verticals such as medicine and R&D. At Morressier, we are harnessing this momentum to build a more accessible conference system, one in which all researchers can discover valuable content, build on each other’s ideas, and make progress faster. We are thrilled that Owl Ventures is joining us on this journey – with their vast experience as the largest investors in education technology, we couldn’t imagine a better partner to help us reach our goals.”

Morressier is unlocking and democratizing access to knowledge with its seamless end-to-end virtual conference platform, enabling learners and researchers around the world to share and advance innovative ideas and breakthroughs. We are incredibly impressed with the passion and dedication of the founding team – Sami, Justus, and Rino – and cannot wait to support them as they accelerate growth and become the global powerhouse in content-centric conferences,” said Tory Patterson, Partner at Owl Ventures.

Morressier has had a remarkable growth these past 7 years and can be considered the protagonist of virtual conferences for academic and professional institutions around the world with the expansion of their publishing technology in Washington, D.C being the first step. The company will use the investment to scale up their team across all departments as well as improving all of their platform technologies.
