London-based premium restaurant and hospitality e-commerce startup Slerp, has raised $10 million in back to back seed and Series A funding rounds. The seed and Series A have been led by Eight Roads Ventures and Jigsaw VC, while Aldea Ventures and Truesight Ventures also saw participation in the round with angel investor Rumi Verjee joining as well. The funds are expected to be used to further improve the startup’s platform and the team size to all sectors as well as expanding across Europe to continue its heavy growth.
Founded by JP Then in 2017, Slerp provides a customizable e-commerce platform that powers websites allowing for on-demand, direct-to-consumer online ordering for all order types – on-demand, pre-orders, nationwide delivery and click-and-collect. The platform has a 7.5% commission fee allowing brands to bring a network of bricks-and-mortar locations online with custom inventory control, connection to last-mile couriers and customizable checkout journeys.
“Slerp provides a very different service to marketplaces in this sector. We are powering the next evolution of online ordering by becoming a digital business partner to brands, enabling them to have a direct relationship with their customers and significantly more control of their online channel. Because our roots are as food brand owners and establishment operators, we have purposefully listened to our peers to create a platform solution that provides significantly more control compared to marketplaces, and contributes to both the top and bottom line for businesses. It’s a very exciting time for the sector as it trends towards being more omnichannel and digitally enabled,” Slerp’s founder JP Then explained.
The pandemic showed us all and especially businesses that suffered most, like hospitality and restaurants, that we had to adapt. And that’s what startups like Slerp are doing. A recent research conducted by Slerp and KAM Media showed that 22% of all UK adults (11.5 million) had ordered a “cook at home” meal box during the lockdown, 40% are positive to purchase in the future and a 62% wanted their restaurant brands to start selling meal boxes frequently.
